- For the poster who suggested the past treatment of RFAs and Gio could influence these decisions, I just don't see it. Clearly players are going to look at for themselves, so you have to be equally brutal the other way. Start thinking of players as assets. Loyalty goes both ways or doesn't exist at all. Clearly it's the latter so act accordingly.
- Maybe the team should double down on Team Sweden. And with that, avoid Americans.
- It drives me nuts that the Oilers tanked their way into two franchise players, and the Flames drafted two with late round picks. The team that actually was smarter, gets burned. The team that has been an embarrassment of failure ends up in a better state. Brutal.
- It may be hard to swallow today, but a 8 year deal at 11.5M (or something like that) was probably at some point going to feel like the Burns/Karlsson deals feel like in SJ. In the long-run this might be better. What sucks is losing the player for nothing again.
- I have a lot of respect for PL Dubois for being extremely up front with Winnipeg and giving them plenty of time to make the right decisions with that knowledge in place.

Best post since the news broke. I actually commented in the PLD thread for being up front with the Jets as going them a favor. Even though Gaudreau wasn't up front we had gone over the scenario here over and over for years. The guy hates flying and they fly considerably less out east. Childhood fan of the Flyers. Father having heart issues. Wife from Philly. So many dots to connect this seemed like an inevitability and maybe the fans (myself included) and the team got caught up in a great regular season and romanticized a fairy tale ending that was never going to happen. It's time to move on now and see what happens in the coming week as the 2022/23 Flames are going to have a bit of a different flavor to them for better or worse.
