This should not come as a shock to anyone. It doesn’t mean Calgary’s chances are done with him, but it is not looking good. He wants to see what his options are, and he deserves that. He won’t get more money anywhere else, as Calgary can offer a 8th year, but for Johnny it’s more about location clearly. We all knew he wanted to return home deep down.
He has earned the right to explore and move on if that’s what he wants. Calgary knew this was a risk, and it’s happening.
Now the question will be, are the Flames able to re sign Tkachuk? That’s the next problem.
