I don't believe this either. If the Flames are already up to and over that number then he would have already told them no. My thoughts are that this is going right to the wire in any foreseeable outcome. The higher the number he gets the Flames to go to tonight dictates how tomorrow goes. Keeping the Flames in negotiations sets a floor on where the 7-year deal goes tomorrow because he can always sign a 7-year deal with the Flames tomorrow. I think the Flames are being used to drive up the number that the Flyers/Devils/Islanders will eventually have to pay.
