That's a bit of an understatement
Between ages 24-28: Gaudreau has a slightly higher PPG than Panarin (1.09 vs 1.06), Panarin has a slightly better AST voting record, and they have a similar number of points over the timeframe.
Their overall supporting cast is pretty similar in terms of talent. Panarin was playing with Kane, Anisimov, PLD, Atkinson, and Strome. Johnny was playing with healthy Tkachuk, Lindholm, pre-concussion Ferland, and healthy Monahan.
Panarin looks a little better on the eye test, but Johnny is definitely on the same level.
