Some are going to say that the team is very close and they just need a little more time or something but having a career year on a contract year always kind of scares me. Is this the new norm? Is that line going to always be like this? If they pay their top 2 wingers 10+ will they be able to afford to build a team around them? If something happens and they have to trade him, will his contract be moveable?
To me it's not as simple as "he's our best player so pay him whatever he wants" weather he's worth it or not, I think that's why a deal hasn't been made yet. But that's just me.

I don't see him regressing from a dominant player who puts up 80-100 points per season for a while.
If the team doesn't get over the hump and you need to trade him, I don't think there will be any problem doing so and you'd get a great return.
Losing him for nothing now is worst case possible.
