Flames will have an idea about future salary caps and will know where other contracts within the team sit. JG’s camp may also have this information.

When I saw the alleged gap this morning they are $12 million apart (assuming 8*$1.5 million). That’s a lot! However…splitting the difference per season between both alleged but perhaps not unreasonable numbers (and there is no reason whatsoever for both parties to agree with that split), the mid point is one nhl minimum contract. Flames cannot let a 100 point player leave for an nhl minimum contract and I suspect both sides know this.

I’m predicting that it gets done at 8*$10.85. Both sides win and both give money up. No source…just me guessing.
