The idea that Gaudreau is only focused on the total dollars and not the AAV is fiction IMO. The 8th year is an advantage, but not to the point where it allows the Flames to spread the same money over a longer term. They are not negotiating with a fool.
I have little doubt he gets $11MM plus on the open market and that's the basis of the ask from the Gaudreau camp. Not much motivation for them to come down from that number so I don't see this as a meet in the middle kind of situation.
