If Gaudreau is gone, the exodus will be interesting to watch develop. Tkachuk will not re-sign with the team long-term (I don't think he re-signs long-term regardless of Gaudreau, but that's just a gut feel). Coleman, who came here on Gaudreau's recommendation, will be demanding a trade. Lindholm will see his linemates both go and will likely make it abundantly clear he has no interest in re-upping when his contract ends as he will see the lack of future for this team. Same with Hanifin. With the top players all gone how long will Markstrom want to hang around? Dominoes are there ready to fall. Gaudreau is the most important player to this team and it is critical they get him under contract, otherwise the consequences will be severe and widespread. I think the Flames know this and will pay up to $11M. That would be all the potential savings from Lucic disappearing being dumped into Gaudreau's salary. They just have to sell Gaudreau on Calgary being the best place for his growing family and future children.
