I think JGs made his decision and I'm guessing the Flames know what it is. As mentioned over and over, there's optics at play here whichever way it goes, and both sides are well aware of the perceptions that they will want to get ahead of or be ready to explain.
IMO the extra year means nothing to JG. Nor does the money, within reason.
It is and always has been to play and live in a city closer to his parents and his wife's parents and raise their child there for next 7 years, or, stay as a Flame, and have a legacy as a career long Flame and a banner in the rafters, while in the meantime, a couple year window at a good Cup run with a coach who pushes him, teammates he likes and a city he likes to play in.
That's it, IMO there's no more negotiation really required, or has there been for a while (it's been all vauge statements about further talks in the last week leading into the draft), it comes down to his life preference and the Flames respect that and he respects the Flames for respecting that.
