Define splinters? Like ones that the owner is worried about that would hurt the dog? Or just less mess for owner to clean up in general?
If it's splinters that could hurt the dog, I wonder if you could soak the wood in oil before the dog chews it so that it isn't too dry. Something simple like the oils and juices after cooking ground beef would probably suffice (assuming no excess salt and spices etc.).
If it's the latter for cleaning, isn't a giant beef bone a better option?
