Losing both Gaudreau and Tkachuk in the same off season would be really bad for optics and devastating to the rest of the team and the fans. That kind of stuff can really hurt a franchise on and off the ice for a long time.
Having said that, just to entertain the thought if it was something that had to happen, it would make sense to move them together. You could extort a bigger return if the team getting them is receiving instant chemistry as well.
The assumption would be that JG has already agreed to sign there. Tkachuk may be a rental, but look at what superstar rentals get at the trade deadline and Tkachuk would have to be worth at least that, plus more considering they would get a year to negotiate or the team receiving him could recoup a large portion at the deadline.
So what kind of return would Tkachuk get? I say at least this year's 1st, plus a 2023 conditional 2nd that becomes a 1st if Tkachuk re-signs, plus an established young player. If they are also getting the jump on signing JG, then you can through in a top prospect.
That would be quite a haul, but would still be difficult to swallow.
