Much more likely you end up with Nolan Patrick than an actual top line C, much less a player that is ever anywhere near as good as Tkachuk.
Hopefully if they are trading Tkachuk an extension with the acquiring team can be agreed to so his value in a trade isn't that low.

If Tkachuk is being offered for 2OA, and you’re presumably losing Johnny as well, just take the pick.
I suggested a month or so ago that a sign and trade with the Devils for both guys could make sense, with Jersey sending Hischier back this way.
Kicks off our rebuild, which can be furthered by trading Lindholm, who would return more than either, given his age, position and contract.
Continue to develop the defense internally, don’t overcommit to anyone, and set yourself up to tank for Bedard.
Won’t happen. Probably not the worst idea, but it won’t happen.
