This type of pessimism in these parts is quite typical. It is fashionable to think that the Flames are a terrible team with no future, and far more impoverished than their NHL contemporaries, but this is silly hyperbole. The Flames do not "have a big hole compared to what the Islanders had." On the contrary, I would say they are probably in even better shape when cross-comparing their current roster to Tavares's last year in NYI. At worst, their situations are very close.
