Then in this thread, you articulate that if we are un-competitive you'll likely have to find other things to do with your evenings (which as mentioned, I totally get and would also agree). This is why the Flames are likely hesitant to do a full rebuild. As much as we say we want it, the hit they will take to attendance and view ship over the years we are rebuilding and not competitive, even in a good hockey market is pretty hard to swallow.
Small market Canadian teams have great knowledgably core fan bases that likely can understand a rebuild, but they macro economics of a small Canadian market don't create the right environment for intentional sucking. They need to fill the building, which doesn't happen unless the team is competitive, and they really need that playoff revenue, even if it's just for one round.

If the team starts a rebuild and we are not competitive we at least have a reason for hope and a future. Not to mention we get to see some young fresh prospects play.
Watching some over priced UFA players try and grab 8th in the west and have us drafting 14th or something is not something I'll put my time in to. We have seen way to much of this as flames fans.
