That is a fine starting point but this doesn’t look to be a negotiation. Gaudreau is about a week away from listening to formal offers from any team in the league so if Flames haven’t made him their best offer yet, I hope they have a plan to do so rather soon.
As you point out, we don’t know for sure what has been offered. But the 9.5 is out there from a few sources and nothing different has been reported yet. Seems like a reasonable thing to debate in the absence of any other information.

If this isn’t a negotiation, then he’s leaving and any offer the Flames make is pointless… if Gaudreau has any intention of staying at all, then of course it is a negotiation.
