A lack of confidence in oneself or an aura of insecurity is a good sign to a woman that the guy doesn't even get respect from himself let alone deserve respect from a woman.

Ever walked around in a mall and seen an incredibly good looking, statuesque woman with a very ordinary looking, and often enough, shorter man and asked "how the hell did he snag her??" Well... that's how... confidence and humor. His introduction with her probably consisted of being lightheartedly rude to her, and shocking her with his audacity and character, or simply, being unique from the typical guy.
With men, looks are key, a woman has to be physically attractive to the guy or its a non-starter (desperate, drunk, or man-whorish guys notwithstanding, but that is typically a disposable fling)... with women, its more how does a man convey himself. Looking good is not as powerful as acting and thinking that you look good, and expressing that with a strong presence. Of course, actually being good looking with the humor and confidence always helps.
