Does it really matter when a player is picked?

2011- Gaudreau is far better than first overall Nuge and I would say I’d very arguable that he would go #1 in a redraft (probably Kucherov but Johnny is in the mix).

2013- Flames have the 5 and 6 player from that draft. Monahan at times would have been a top 3 but no longer the case. Lindholm however today is likely only behind MacKinnon and Barkov

2016- Chucky is likely second to only Matthews (Flames pick Adam Fox maybe has a case for second)

So the team’s top line is the equivalent of having 3 top 3 picks.

I understand the thought of these guys don’t sign it is time to consider rebuilding but unless our top coach decides to leave that won’t happen.
