I appreciate your input, however the reality is the Sutter hire is not irrelevant.
He isn't just going to walk away from millions of dollars because of a rebuild, I can almost assure you he was told the Flames will be "pushing for a cup" as part of his hire and the reason he signed for 3 years.

With that said, I 100% agree it would be absolutely crippling to try and extend a window after losing your 2 biggest stars, but as we've seen by this franchise NUMEROUS times its almost guaranteed to happen again. When was the last time this team tore down its core and went full rebuild? Has it ever?

This franchise is notorious for signing mid tier UFA's and trying to extend windows beyond its reach (almost every season Iginla played after the 2004 cup run)

Its not a successful way to build a cup winning franchise, at least not in the modern day as we've seen with Tamp, Colorado etc. You need to fail, get lucky with top 3 draft spots and build/develop internally. This is why this offseason is insanely terrifying, we're in a bad spot going into the draft here.. and that's an understatement.
