I was surprised at how good the Black Phone ended up being.

Probably the best abduction movie since Prisoners. Forget the horror aspects, it's just a good, disturbing, well-written film. Impressive child actor performances too, kind of reminiscent of the first IT remake. Usually Blumhouse films meander into goofy horror territory. But this one really drives home the gravity of the situation for the abducted. Well done, Scott Derrickson.
