With Gaudreau the Flames made the playoffs this year and got 7 home playoff games.
Even if playoff tickets were only worth an average of $150 per seat per game (probably a safe estimate) then that was worth $20M in revenue to the Flames owners.
I think ownership takes the strong season and $20M in playoff revenue over a couple of 1st round picks for Gaudreau.
As fans we only care about winning, but there is proof that this ownership group cares about just making the playoffs and revenue more.
