There are always exceptions and as far as mainstream, artists like The Weeknd and The Chainsmokers put out some solid tracks that weren't just like everything else out there at the time, but BOY has the general quality of music taken a dive.
Just like social media, all the artists with any kind of following just make a carbon copy of what every one else is doing (goddamn trap-style music) and don't bother to come with something of their own.
The quality of lyrics and writing has also regressed to where there is no thought, story or poetry in half the music out there. Often there isn't even a cohesive collection of words.
It's like some artists are singing a bad drunk text that a friend send them.

Every era has crap music.
I've been listening to the Billboard top hits by year on Spotify, and christ there's some real junk in every year.
