I'd argue nothing. Tell the fans that no decision has been made and string it out right until the last minute. Then feed the fans a line about being closer to family and get the heck out of dodge.
He's gone already. Many of us just don't want to accept it. If he was going to stay, he would have signed an eight year extension months ago, instead of risk his future earnings by getting injured as he played his contract out.

I do not understand how many are not grasping that the threat of getting to UFA matters to guys. Look no further that the C of the Avs. He held out to the last minute before he got to UFA because he wanted to know what else would come his way...his agent told him what that would be, so he re-upped to be with the team he had grown up with and knew would be good. Stamkos was another example.
It is NO different with JG. Gross has been very busy talking to GM's/asst's and has a pretty good idea what teams may come after his client and for how much money.....which is literally his job. As much as some on both sides of this want to read into something(s) said by player and/or agent....it means squat.
