Imagine for a moment that Johnny Gaudreau was desperate to get out of Calgary. So much that he was willing to sacrifice an eight year deal in favor of a seven year deal elsewhere. What would he have done differently along the way?
I'd argue nothing. Tell the fans that no decision has been made and string it out right until the last minute. Then feed the fans a line about being closer to family and get the heck out of dodge.
He's gone already. Many of us just don't want to accept it. If he was going to stay, he would have signed an eight year extension months ago, instead of risk his future earnings by getting injured as he played his contract out.
