now that grids are out:
* RW Ryan Hartman (72 ov, RFA)
the smart play here is to re-sign him for one year, so he can be re-signed to a 3 year deal next year before he hits UFA. That means he'll make $4.5m on a one year deal this upcoming season, which is a more than reasonable deal for someone who comes off a breakout season in the NHL and has re-rated as a really good second line winger.
* RW Connor Brown (73 ov, RFA)
he's a year older than Hartman, so to get the max out of him, it'd have to be a 3 year deal at $6.0m. Not a bargain, but Brown has put up really solid numbers for years now and has re-rated as a top line forward. I'm willing to retain a million or two, maybe another one for 23/24 if you make it worth it.
ideal package is future-oriented, so picks and prospects. If a player comes back, I'd prefer a center or defenseman.
Max Pacioretty (74 ov, 1 yr at $8.0m) and Jamie Benn (71 ov, 2 yrs at $6.5m) remain on the block as well.
