I think this quote is my biggest piece or advice for enjoying travel - don't go see the things you are "supposed" to see in a place. Go and DO and SEE what actually interests you. The best travel memories are always something serendipitous.

I always make it a point when I travel to travel in the cities the way that locals travel. Take their buses, their trains, their tuk-tuks at least once! This is how you breathe the city and take everything in. Don't need to travel exclusively that way, but at least try it - you'll see way more than from the backseat of an Uber/taxi.
