This is a great approach and is what we are doing for our clients (and what we always do for our clients).
No one knows when the bottom is, until it is in the rearview mirror. Dollar cost averaging is a sure way to win. If you start now, and it goes lower, fine, you're buying more. If it doesn't go lower, you started at the bottom. Regardless, at some point things will recover, and when they do, every purchase that you have made from now until then will have been a good one.
Also - and this is much more important than most people give it credit for - it takes all the stress out of it.
