Most of the main western democracies have people in positions of power that simply can't govern, but are awesome at politics. Michelle Obama would probably win, but there is nothing to indicate that she knows how to govern.
Trump can't, surprisingly Biden can't, Obama v.1.0 was a surprise contestant, and slipped though the cracks and had some ability. He ran into 'The Establishment', a wall of politicians who only play politics, and was only a fraction effective. To become powerful it really is a pageant, and not anything to do with making a country better.
Pelosi and McConnell, the two most powerful people in the States, are nightmare creatures, but they keep getting elected.
