In this case there was SO MUCH room that almost any bunt in that direction that didn't go foul would have been an effective bunt. He didn't have to do anything special with it. Maybe he would have popped it up too short and had an easy out for the catcher, but it would have had a much better chance of getting him to first than... that.

The other issue is with 2 strikes it’s an out if he doesn’t get it laid downs fair. He took your advice and tried it the next aB, didn’t work out for him.
