The only stats you have quoted are OPS and WAR. Both (especially OPS) are very heavily focused on power. And IMO, it is these stats that have been the genesis of the way the game has changed offensively - everything is about power now. Who cares about avg or speed or anything else.

Tapia is not a great hitter. But he does bring some things to the lineup. And he isn't the worst hitter in baseball (unless you want to look singularly at those two stats). Speed on the bases doesn't show up in stats, but it does add a dimension to the offense. And the Jays can use more left-handed hitters.

Anyway, that is the last I am going to say about him.

And I agree, despite the fact that he does bring speed and a left handed bat to the lineup, it is pretty ridiculous that he has more plate appearances than Kirk.
