Neither guy is established.

End of the day this thread is in the spirit of what won’t happen which is the Flames moving on from multiple core pieces to try and facilitate a massive tank an offseason after they win the division and a round of playoffs.

Beyond that we now are simply talking valuation of players and organizational needs. Colorado could be losing 2 huge pieces in Kadri and Kuemper. Kadri is almost certainly gone as he will command a max term deal likely at $8M similar to what Duchene signed in Nashville. Kuemper likely wants a 5 year deal at top 10 starter money and I think is a worse goalie than Markstrom. Lindholm is one of the best contracts in the league and is right in the same age group as MacKinnon, Landeskog, Rantanen.

This draft doesn’t have a ton of hype and many have stated it is a pretty weak draft. 2012 vibes where Yakupov and Murray were the top picks. Tkachuk has been referred to as a unicorn on the radio lately and if the flames are forced to trade him I think there will be a bidding war. If the Flames are stuck with their cap situation and Tkachuk is going to play hardball moving him for a high pick makes sense but with the draft being lackluster more would be needed. Like I said earlier maybe Holtz is teaching but Zacha’s rights plus should easily be on the table. The Devils want to move forward immediately and Tkachuk id exactly the piece they would be looking for especially because they lack size up front.

Trelviing has his version of the Bruins perfection line. Gaudreau-Lindholm-Tkachuk can be the best line in the league for the next 3 years in my opinion and the Flames will find a way to keep them here together long term. These guys won’t be available for trade and this team is not going to tank for Bedard by stripping it down this summer. Teams do not trade elite first line players making $3-4M less than their actual value when they are competing and those players have multiple years left. Players like Tkachuk are a rare breed and teams don’t move those players unless they have to.
OK but this is why people maybe find a re-build compelling if they think that's the type of return the Flames will get.
Young cost controlled talent is some of the most valuable assets in the league.
Tkachuk is 1 year from being able to be a UFA.

That matters.

And I think you are buying into fan commentary about this draft. It isn't great at the top end, but that doesn't mean those top picks still don't have gobs of value.
