It seems to be a sci-fi thing more than just a Star Wars thing. Trek, Dr Who, Battlestar Galactica, etc have all had their fair share of racism, bigotry and misogyny when characters from the 50s and 60s are changed or introduced that aren’t white dudes.
Hell, we’ve seen it on CP when members complain about “woke” Disney or Paramount for changing a character’s gender, race or including someone with a different sexual preference than their own.
They can’t imagine a writing team wanting to include a wide range of characters in a future setting where they’re not the central character anymore.
