And the thing is many of us called this when the Oilers got eliminated last year. We said watch out for the oilers next year because they are going to apply huge pressure to get more calls. And I wouldn't be surprised if inside the Oilers they have agreed that Connor should 2 things:
- Initiate contact
- when the contact comes make sure the refs see it.
Put the pressure on the refs to make the calls. That's the plan they are executing.
And its the reason i said i wanted no part of the Oilers in the playoffs.

His 'grab the stick and tuck into my body and then spin around to make it look like a hook' is a classic. Refs continue to fall for it.
I think the worst part is how many in the media were all over the league last summer for missed calls. They didn't mention the calls/dives he should've been called for, of course.
I've always said I hate the game management/even up calls in the NHL. If one team commits 15 penalties and the other commits 2, so be it. Call it that way. Just because McDavid can skate fast then spins around or dives on some minimal contact doesn't mean it's a penalty.
But it ain't changing. He knows embellishment works. He'll do it for his entire career. He's not stopping.
