same thing for the Death Star duel with Vader, in my head I always imagined that as their first meeting since his fall, but now they're going to have a mid-exile clash, and during this time period Vader will still consider himself a "student".

If you want to think that much about it, why does he not recognize Artoo and 3PO in ANH? Is he really just feigning "oh I don't remember owning any droids before"?
And yeah his meeting with Vader would seem a bit anticlimactic if they last bumped into each other like 7 years ago (Luke from 10 to 17).
