same thing for the Death Star duel with Vader, in my head I always imagined that as their first meeting since his fall, but now they're going to have a mid-exile clash, and during this time period Vader will still consider himself a "student".

The duel thing is a great point. I always got the impression that it was the first time Obi Wan had laid eyes on Anakin in the suit, and is shocked by what a monster he is. Vader even says "when I left you, I was but a learner, and now I am the master". That implies they haven't seen each other since he became Vader.
It's also possible that Vader and Obi Wan never actually meet in this new series. We could just get a game of cat and mouse, with Obi Wan narrowly escaping.
