Notice period Length of employment

5 week 6 years but less than 8 years
6 week 8 years but less than 10 years
8 week 10 years or more

appreciate any feedback from people who have gone through similar. I have 7.5 years so not sure why/how they can terminate effectively immediately and not provide 5 weeks notice.
Employment Standards is the minimum. Common law entitlement for severance is way more.
You received the 5 weeks as pay in lieu instead of working notice so you've received the minimum under Employment Standards but you're likely entitled to way more than that.

Severance usually starts around 3-4+ weeks of pay per year of service based on your total compensation (including benefits, pension, bonus, etc). Depends on your role, circumstances, etc.
Don't sign anything. Talk to a lawyer.
