The Sens are the team that traded a young Zibanajed for Brassard because they did not want to pay Zibanajed. Living in Ottawa they are desperate to actually be a contender given that nobody wants to drive 45 minutes to see a bad team. They actually don’t have years to wait and Tkachuk is a 100 point guy. There is a reason beyond just being dumb that they traded a 3rd round pick for Hamonic. You may have to eat a million on Tkachuk’s salary as well but you could do a trade like that given the local dynamics. We had a client this year with a box and there were games where they could not give the seats away. A splash like Tkachuk could sell them an extra 500-1000 season tickets, which for Melnyk’s beneficiaries would be quite helpful.
