Few Tidbits
- Noticed that the Oilers really dropped back and decided to clog the neutral zone up. Very ironic because that just confirms that the offensive juggernaut that is the Oilers is actually scared of the “old & slow grinding” Flames
- It appears the Oiler forwards are doing a good job of fronting the Flames’ blue liners and taking away the points which has been imperative to the Flames high shot volume style this season
- Very good adjustment by Woodcroft as he turned our advantage into a disadvantage. Oiler forwards caught the Flames’ D napping several times getting behind them for breakaways because of this
- Flames should counteract by focusing on funneling everything down low instead. If the Oilers want to take our point shot away, then that should open up the slot
- Smith is making too many plays with the puck thwarting our forecheck, team needs to focus on more diagonal dump ins so Smith can’t play the puck so much. That should take away some of the easy breakouts they had
- Markstrom now sporting an .876 sv% against the Oilers in his last 15 games. He looks more like an AHLer when playing against them. This isn’t a small sample size either
