Gambling addiction is a serious problem for many and shouldn't be taken lightly.
Still, I believe that guys like Kane who are in the spotlight, able to make millions, and have a choice about being a high-profile public entertainer, are fair game for getting the gears for it. Same with mocking alcoholic athletes IMO. If you can't take the heat, get off the ice and get some help and be in an environment where you are safe. But to exercise your right to participate in professional sports you have to be able to handle the abuse that comes with it.
I have zero sympathy for Kane or any NHL player getting mocked on the ice outside of racism or sexism/homophobia.
