I am saying, at the time of the Hamilton trade, how much value did he have to the Canes and Flames? Somewhere between zero and a 2nd + 3rd rounder being the high mark. I just doubt it was close to the high mark at that point. I could be wrong.
According to Friedman, the Islanders wanted Fox in the Hamonic trade.

They wanted a 1st, Fox, and another pick for Hamonic and settled for a 1st, 2nd, 2nd for Hamonic and a 4th.

So a year before this trade, we could say the Islanders valued Fox at at least at a 2nd round pick depending on what that other pick was when the Islanders were asking for.

I also think if Treliving could, he would have traded Fox directly to the Rangers himself for more value. But it appears Carolina wanted their shot at him to complete the deal.
