The only reason it looks at all late (other than the slo-mo) is that McDavid pulls away from Lucic, which kind of extends the length of time that Lucic is approaching him.
Completely clean hit. The penalty was because he was the only guy that dropped their mitts. And it was a time in the game where the refs were calling the next one on the Flames.

And, that right there, drives me crazy! The "game management" concept, and the idea that it is effective, is complete lunacy.
Either call everything, or call nothing, or pick a standard in the middle where you call whatever you define as a penalty!!!! This concept of evolving standards, based on gameflow, gametime, or gamescore, completely needs to be eradicated!
Personally, I'd call nothing, and let the strongest gladiator win!
