First the BOA hasn't really existed in decades. Games with the Flames for years have been fairly indistinguishable from others. I've never subscribed either that there was a battle with the Flames. In our glory years we usually rolled the Flames. Doesn't battle constitute that there is one?
In these "battles" the Oilers have always had the far more talented team and the Flames have had the lunchbuckets trying to bring hockey down to a primitive level. I never looked forward to series with the Flames, thats giving them too much credit. I looked forward to series against say NYI, Chi, Bos, Philly, more talented clubs than Calgary Flames had and that would actually try to play hockey. My sum experience with Flames series is expecting the worst play and conduct from the Flames and never being disappointed.
For Calgary this is always a battle because its their mountain to climb. Conversely I've never been excited with the Oilers facing the likes of Jim Peplinski, Tim Hunter, and the rabble. Uniformly the Flames, from a hockey standpoint, were always the worst of the teams we would face to watch. I guess people look at it from a drama standpoint. But I enjoy watching clubs other than Calgary. I hate watching the Flames anytime, but this is where we're headed.
I'll put it this way. Been to a ton of games through 50yrs. I love hockey, love playoff hockey. I've never bought a pro ticket in a game involving the Flames and never would. So many other opponents make for better "hockey playing" opponents. The Flames do something else, that I've always deplored. They bring hockey to the alley, always.
