The problem with the guy clearly saying he was pushed from behind is this
Supposing a guy was awful enough to actually assault someone, and was then identified, shifting the blame would probably be expected, whether it is true or not.
If he was pushed, and then knocked the other guy down, he would say he was pushed.
If he is just a jerk who assaulted someone, then realizes he has been identified, he can say he was pushed.
If somebody pushed me, I knocked a guy, and he took a tumble, then seemed to be hurt, I myself would probably be apologizing, explaining what happened, and checking on the guy to make sure he was okay. Most decent people would probably do that
I can’t perfectly reconcile that with the people just taking off, and somebody chasing them down to get their pictures, either
That’s where witnesses can help
Too little information to determine intent
