Flames fans in the arena are so generous with their compliments for Oettinger. Can't say I blame them.

My observations:

- The teams still in round 2 have playmakers. All the teams do. And each have several of them. We need to bring up playmakers that can control / possess the puck and have high hockey IQ.
- We have (potentially) 3 of them in the minors now. Bring them up. Coach them. They all have better hockey IQ than Nichuskin. So don't worry about putting them in the oven too early. We just saw our goalie prove that that "theory" of "too early exposure" is just nonsense. If someone can make plays, bring them up. Give them minutes. Let them play. NOW.
- Gagliardi needs to say goodbye (elegantly) to Nill and Bowness. This system will not work.
- Next GM has his work cut out for him. The Bro Contracts are boat anchors. Their game now looks like they are 2-3 years past their prime. What do you do? Not much you can do. This is why you never pay players for prior production -- even at the risk of angering fans.
- Holy crap, Robo looked lost out there the entire series. I kept yelling "skate" at the TV to him. He just was not moving to open spaces. I hope it was something other than being mentally overwhelmed.
- Miro (and of course, Otter) tried put the whole damn thing on his back and win it for us. I love that guy.
- You guys are going to hate this but we have seen the best years of Klinger. Best to let him go and move on. It's only downhill for him. He was a ghost during the entire series except when he was being picked on in the early games. Learn from your Seguin / Benn mistakes. Never pay for prior production peaks.

I've been saying we needed to offload the 3 B's for 2 years now. Bones, Benn, and Bishop.
I hate the way Bishop had to exit but Otter needed time in the league.
Bones rode the coat tails of Monty's system and it looked promising but I called this.
Benn is spent. No one will take his contract and he's earning double his value. At this point we'd be better off sending him off in a really lopsided trade just to free cap for some younger blood and future extensions.

IMHO Stars have a chance if:
- Oettinger transform into Dryden ('71) or Roy ('86)
- Calgary loses key players to injuries at the beginning of the series
If not, this will be over in 5 games (maybe 6).
I only hope to watch fun games since the next Stars' games will only be in October.

Looks like (for once) I was somewhat right.
But, to be honest, I would never had predicted such Super Elite Performance by Oettinger. And not only in that 7th game. He was spectacular all through the series. And this in his second NHL season at such a young age.
In all my years of watching hockey, I don’t remember watching such a young goaltender performing like that. Not even, Brodeur, Roy, Dryden and even Price. They were comparing him at Carey Price on the Calgary feed. You have to be inhuman not to feel for him after that OT goal.
The good news here is that we now have a Franchise goaltender alongside a Franchise D.
The bad news is that this performance is masking major flaws on that team. So, if the front office only thinks about the fact that they “nearly” won that 7th game instead of going through the way this team lost (and barely made the PO), we are not out of the woods yet.
