Magpies literally sound like they're saying "bitch bitch bitch". Though I concede that most birds (chickadee included) have a caw when there's danger present.

I'm sure that when the other important poll comes comes out, that being "What is the most annoying bird in Calgary", magpie will be on that list, and they have a good chance of winning, since Canada geese at least FO for winter. Let Edmonton have their magpies, while we bask in the relaxing song of the chickadee.
Chickadees are too dumb and tiny to attack anything that isn't a berry. I like my wildlife wild. I've never had a Magpie attack a pet because I respect them and their territory.

If I knew Edmonton already chose the Magpie I wouldn't have campaigned for it to win. Actually I'd like to see a bird of prey as city bird. Something badass instead of the darling of the suburbs we got.

If you want a songbird to win I'd suggest the Northern Shrike. I think it was already mentioned but it is an awesome bird.
