Not really all that surprised, but in no way is that anything else than a hockey play. There was no launch, no targeting and no change of position to hit the head.
The game is fast and its unreasonable to expect players to make minute adjustments to their body positions to avoid the head at that speed.
In the end, I believe it is only a matter of time before "hitting" is out of the game. It may not be mandated, but it will be too risky to do it.
There is no doubt that the game is changing. With the Oilers pushing the diving, powerplay narrative and the league pushing this headshot narrative without considering the context, it's only a matter of time until the league is simply a glorified, non contact, all star game.
