Fair enough. I became a Flames fan in 1986 when they were playing the Oilers. I was a kid living in northern alberta at the time, in the middle of Oilers country, and I found the Oilers fans to be insufferable, even then. Watching Steve Smith score on himself live was one of the first defining moments of my Flames fan career and I preened the whole next day at school.

I've been a Flames fan ever since. But I'm not a cheerleader. And like other areas I demand excellence. So if I see anything less than excellent, I consider it a failure. I'm a tough crowd that way. Me identifying less-than-excellent as unacceptable probably gets interpreted as negativity. Perhaps that's a fair characterization, that's up to others to decide.

I've sat through a lot of mediocrity over the years with the Flames.
