The New York Rangers beat the Montreal Maroons there in 1928. That was the crazy series where Lester Patrick, the 44-year-old coach, had to play goal in one game because the starter got injured by a puck in the eye, no backup was dressed, and the Maroons refused to allow the use of an emergency goalie.
As if that wasn't bad enough, every game of the series was played in Montreal, because MSG was pre-empted by the circus.
