I honestly don't understand any version that looks at that entire sequence (frustrated team goonery a few minutes earlier, a slash seconds before and then that launching head missile) and can come up with a conclusion that whatever else that was or wasn't that it wasn't intentional

Granted, I wasn't listening too hard to the panel. I almost never watch the talking heads anymore, especially McLean. I used to stand up for McLean when Cherry would constantly be belligerent to him, but now I wish Cherry would come back to yell at him some more.
My takeaway from it was that their evasiveness was pretty telling. Elliott's whole "I don't want to say anything bad about it because I don't want to create a bias" pretty much tells you what he was honestly thinking without really saying it. Then McLean cutting everyone off at the end and changing the subject was also telling. If he thought it was a nothing incident, he would have said so. He knew it was bad and just didn't want to give it attention for that reason.
