But the reason is because they are shooting from everywhere. In the regular season, they would be more inclined to make another pass. And with the extra pass, you either get a BETTER scoring chance, or you don't get a chance at all.
If you always make the extra pass, you get fewer chances, but will score at a higher rate.
If you shoot from everywhere, you will get more chances - including more high danger chances - but you will have a lower success rate.

Bottom line is they are getting more high danger chances in each game on average though.

Overall shot attempts ... the Flames are at 64.1/60 minutes five on five, and 66.0/60 in all situations.
Regular season they are 63.3 five on five and 63.2 in all situations.
No real change there.
Visually I agree, they're not moving the puck as well, but it's not that they're shooting more, or getting a watered down mix of more out side shots vs high danger.
Pucks just aren't going in.
