Neither hockey nor the world are so black and white that only one side has dirty hands. Regardless of Flames’ players culpability, there has been a silly amount of 4 on 4 even compared to intense regular season battles. If a problem has more than one factors, why only address one?
I think it’s fair, and within the scope of his job to bring up his concerns about the officiating. It also doesn’t necessarily detract from how he deals with it with his own players.
What does a coach say when an official seems to have it on for their team calling a one-sided penalties? They tell their players to step up and overcome it by being more careful and not give the refs the opportunity to make those borderline calls. However, that doesn’t mean the coach can’t or shouldn’t also address his concerns with the officials.
